Growing Season

2008 was a great growing season for both these varieties with rain falling at the right time to ensure we had plenty of canopy to ripen the crop. The Sauvignon was harvested relatively early in February just before we experienced 30mm of rain. The Semillon was a very light crop due to the effect of previous drought and was harvested two weeks later.

Winemaking

Grapes for this wine were picked at night to retain the crisp fruit flavours, then gently pressed. The resulting juice was soft with excellent flavours, which were enhanced by extended settling, and then a slow cool ferment. The wine was quickly cleaned up with minimum filtration and bottled as soon as possible to really deliver the freash fruity flavours you see.

Tasting Notes

An almost clear wine with just a hint of lime green, the nose is flinty with freshly cut grass and some citrus notes. The fresh palate is all lemon and lime with some green apples also. The fresh spicy finish makes this wine a really refreshing summer drink, perfect for lazing by the pool on a hot day.
