Deep River Semillon Sauvignon Blanc
Growing Season
2008 was a great growing season for both these varieties with rain falling at the right time to ensure we had plenty of canopy to ripen the crop. The Sauvignon was harvested relatively early in February just before we experienced 30mm of rain. The Semillon was a very light crop due to the effect of previous drought years and was harvested two weeks later.
Winemaking
Fruit was harvested at night to ensure delivery to the winery at optimal temperatures. Fruit was crushed with rollers open and first cut made between 575 - 600 litres per tonne. Wines were fermented separately using QA23 and final blending was undertaken in June 2008. The wine has a slighly greater percentage of Semillon - 51%.
Tasting Notes
The Deep River Semillon Sauvignon Blanc has lifted, citrus aromas with herbaceous, green apple complexity. The palate displays melon and citrus with crisp clean acidity that provides a refreshing finish. Enjoy this wine on its own or as a complement to seafood, white meats or creamy pasta.
