Reviews“Windowrie ‘The Mill’ Cowra Chardonnay 2007 -
The '06 won a trophy at the Cowra Show and despite 2007 being a drought year this is every bit as succulent. Owner Jason O'Dea reckons this typifies all that is good about Cowra Chardonnay. 'Fresh, spritely and full of varietal flavours with a firm acid structure.” “Windowrie ‘The Mill’ Cowra Shiraz 2006 -
Well made easy drinking shiraz that represents good value. The notes say it has a component of shiraz from Orange and interestingly, there is a 4 percent addition of Cabernet Franc. Not that I would have picked it, but it does add an extra dimension to the wine. Worth exploring further I think.” “Although Chardonnay is easily Cowra's front running white, Verdelho also does extremely well there, as this wine's full, fresh and inviting flavours resoundingly show.” “This is a terrific quaffing wine at a very reasonable price. It is unoaked with lashings of tropical fruit flavours and some nice acid on the finish. It is made by a very good Cowra winery that uses grapes from across central western NSW. It's hard to find a wine that complements the fiery flavours of Indian and Thai food, but this certainly does the trick. $15.” “This is Windowrie’s 12th consecutive Chardonnay vintage, from a region which has really taken off in recent years. It’s nicely constructed with upfront melon and stonefruit on the nose and palate, lively acidity and a crisp, clean finish. Drink it with pan fried veal.” “The Mill Central Ranges Chardonnay 2007 - neat, typically varietal stone fruit, ripe peaches, rich and creamy, robust and with smooth honey dew melon characters as well. The oak is melded well with judicious vanillin oak.
A nice classic edge of lively acidity with a creamy smooth luscious easy drinkingness to the end. Try it with salmon fillets.
Drink Now. About $15. 91/100 - Excellent.” “This is a well priced, nicely textured Sangiovese with plenty of depth and varietal purity. There are whiffs of slightly sour cherries and it has the sort of drying tannins that really suit Italian meat dishes that feature tomato and oregano.” “The Family Reserve range, as the name implies, represents the finest wines that can be produced in any one vintage year and are the top of
the range from the Windowrie label. At the $20 price tag, it is considered to be excellent value for money” “There is more to Cowra than Chardonnay and Windowrie is doing a good job of showcasing this. Windowrie has a swag of wines available that offer great value for money” “The Cowra based Windowrie Winery cleaned up at the recent Cowra Wine Show, winning a gold medal and trophy for best local wine with this smartly contructed Chardonnay” “Windowrie Estate wines chosen to be served on China Southern Airlines in first class” “We were amazed by how affordable these wines were and to learn they are exported all over the world” “From the O’Dea family comes this bargain Chardonnay” “Windowrie The Mill Merlot 2005 - leathery nose and powerful plum and cherry palate with oak and tannin in perfect balance. $14.95” “The Cowra region in central NSW is renowned for producing ripe, easy-drinking white wines. This Verdelho from Windowrie is no exception” “A major, and pleasant surprise” “Bargain of the week - Windowrie The Mill Tempranillo” “The benefits of making wine next to the vineyard show in an unoaked Chardonnay” “Good value” “Trophy winner - Food and wine match Course one - The Mill Verdelho matched with organically grown asparagus served with parsley” “Grapes from this wine, from a reliably good Cowra maker, were harvested over three nights to capture the fruit at different stages of ripeness” “The 2006 Mill Chardonnay ($14 - $17) is a blinder... a great everyday wine that will also present well at a formal dinner occasion. Life is Good” |
