The Family Reserve Cowra Shiraz received special treatment in the Vineyard/Winery, with traditional hand plunging, extended skin contact and 12 months maturation in French Oak. This has resulted in a complex wine with excellent balance and structure. The plum, briar fruits, pepper and clove spice aromas are supported by a smooth, rounded palate which will continue to develop in the bottle over the medium term. Total production 300 cases.

"Windowrie Family Reserve won gold at November’s National Wine Show of Australia. It was one of 113 wines entered in the ‘Shiraz 2016’ class, and one of eight wines to win a gold medal in it. However, several big, expensive names – including Yalumba The Octavius and Seppelt St Peters – escaped the judges’ attention, confirming the democracy of masked tastings if not the reliability of the results.
"Windowrie Family Reserve 2016 no doubt stood out to the judges for its delicious fruit character. The wine pulses with ripe, red-berry and spice flavours, supported by juicy, soft tannins – a pleasing combination that means vibrant, fresh drinking and the satisfying structure and finish of a real red."

90 POINTS. "A decadent nose that showcases plum, mulberry and ripe red cherry fruits with a sweetness of charred oak and a touch of clove. A supple, mouth filling wine that enjoys it’s baseline of clove and cardamon spice that melds with dark berry fruits and a build of tannins that are equal part earth and vanilla. The finish has length, and enjoys a drying thread that is laced with black fruits."

91 POINTS "I do like these Windowrie wines. Find a steak and you have a perfect partner in this wine. Berry basket aromas, Szechuan pepper and char get my attention early. Blackberry and blueberry fruit cut loose in the mouth. Quite linear, firm tannins make their presence felt with a bitey spice to close. The finish leaves the mouth drying and puckering."
